SustainHealth is seeking an exceptional Medical Scientist for a permanent full-time or part-time role in Norfolk Island. A fixed term role of 3 or 6 months is also on offer.
Located 1,200 km east of Byron Bay, this Australian Territory provides a welcoming and inclusive community, a sub-tropical climate, and regular flight access to Brisbane and Sydney.
You’ll be part of a professional, supportive environment that values collaboration, integrity, and innovation, with strong links to mainland networks and Metro North Health partners.
The Role
- Perform, verify, and validate diagnostic pathology tests in according to approved procedures and standards
- Maintain laboratory equipment, calibration, and information systems to ensure quality and reliability
- Implement and monitor quality assurance and quality control programs aligned with NATA/ISO 15189 requirements
- Participate in the on-call roster and ensure timely response to urgent pathology needs
- Collaborate with NIHRACS and other clinicians and Pathology Queensland to support test selection, result interpretation, and clinical consultation
- Contribute to continual improvement, safety, and quality initiatives across the Pathology Department
- Support governance, data integrity, and reporting requirements to ensure compliance with NIHRACS policies and national standards
- Demonstrate a commitment to uphold the NIHRACS core values of teamwork, excellence, integrity, and respect in all aspects of our work
- Provide leadership and oversight of the laboratory team (for the Full-Time Medical Scientist role)
About You
- Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or equivalent qualification
- Multidisciplinary pathology laboratory experience including specimen collection, haematology, chemistry, microbiology, and transfusion
- Experience implementing and managing quality control systems and operation of laboratory equipment
- Ability to work independently within a small team and exercise professional judgment
- Leadership experience, highly regarded
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Current C Class driver’s licence
- Vaccinations in accordance with Class A requirements
- Employment screening checks (National Criminal Record Check / Aged Care check)
