1. Role Overview
The Open Access Business Development professional will lead and support business growth initiatives across Maharashtra and Karnataka markets. This role includes facilitating bilateral/PX (Power Exchange) transactions, guiding regional teams, nurturing key regulatory and government relationships, and driving revenue generation through strategic market engagement. The incumbent will be responsible for analyzing regulatory developments, identifying new business opportunities, managing commercial documentation, and supporting end-to-end Open Access operations.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Business Development & Revenue Growth
- Support and guide the regional team in closing Bilateral and Power Exchange (PX) contracts with Open Access consumers.
- Develop and execute business strategies aligned with monthly and annual revenue targets.
- Identify, explore, and evaluate new business opportunities within the Open Access, Renewable, and Power Trading domain.
- Inspire and mentor team members to adopt innovative approaches for business expansion and revenue maximization.
B. Regulatory & Policy Engagement
- Maintain strong, cordial, and collaborative relationships with government agencies including: State Load Despatch Centres (SLDCs), State Electricity Regulatory Commissions (SERCs), Distribution Companies (DISCOMs)
- Provide clients with regular regulatory updates on Open Access, power market reforms, and state-level policies.
- Conduct detailed analysis of: Regulatory frameworks and discussion papers, Multi-Year Tariff (MYT) Orders, Renewable energy (RE) policies of Maharashtra, Karnataka, and other relevant states.
- Assess the future impact of regulatory changes on the power sector and communicate actionable insights to internal and external stakeholders.
C. Market Intelligence & Reporting
- Prepare monthly regional updates covering:
- Market trends and developments
- Proposed market approach and customer acquisition strategy
- New business models relevant to Open Access and Renewable Energy
- Updates on regulatory orders, petitions, and policy changes
- Track competition, pricing trends, and opportunities in the short-term, medium-term, and long-term power trading space.
D. Commercial & Contractual Management
- Handle all commercial activities related to power trading transactions including:
- Drafting, negotiating, and executing Power Purchase Agreements (PPA), Letters of Intent (LOI), and related commercial documents
- Managing Open Access approvals, SLDC coordination, and related compliance
- Ensuring accuracy in energy scheduling, metering data, deviation settlement, and energy billing
- Coordinate with internal scheduling, operations, and legal teams to ensure seamless execution of transactions.
E. Client Relationship Management
- Build strong relationships with industrial, commercial, and renewable energy customers.
- Support clients with Open Access applications, regulatory clarifications, feasibility checks, and end-to-end transaction management.
- Conduct client meetings, presentations, and trainings on power market opportunities and regulatory changes.
3. Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Power Engineering, Energy Management, or related field; MBA preferred.
- 6–8years of experience in Open Access, Power Trading, Regulatory Affairs, or Business Development in the power sector.
- Strong understanding of power markets, SLDC processes, OA regulations, and commercial documentation.
- Ability to analyze regulatory documents and translate insights into actionable business strategies.
