Residential Medical Officer (RMO)

Position Summary
The Residential Medical Officer (RMO) will be responsible for providing round-the-clock primary medical care and emergency response to students, faculty, staff, hostel residents, and campus visitors. The RMO shall oversee the day-to-day functioning of the University Health Centre, coordinate medical emergencies, ensure preventive healthcare initiatives, and maintain statutory compliance related to campus healthcare services.
The role demands a compassionate, proactive, and service-oriented medical professional capable of independently managing routine medical cases while coordinating with hospitals for specialized care whenever required.
Key Responsibilities
1. Medical Care & Clinical Services
- Provide primary medical consultation and treatment to students, faculty, and staff.
- Diagnose and manage common illnesses, injuries, and minor emergencies.
- Administer first aid and emergency stabilization.
- Prescribe medications within the scope of medical practice.
- Monitor patients under observation in the campus medical centre.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and ethical medical practice.
2. Emergency Medical Response
- Be available for medical emergencies on campus.
- Coordinate ambulance services whenever required.
- Stabilize critically ill patients before referral.
- Maintain emergency medicines and life-saving equipment.
- Coordinate with nearby hospitals and specialists for referrals.
- Participate in disaster management and emergency preparedness drills.
3. Student Health Management
- Conduct medical examinations during admissions.
- Monitor the health status of hostel students.
- Manage infectious disease surveillance and isolation protocols.
- Counsel students regarding nutrition, hygiene, sleep, stress, and lifestyle.
- Address mental health concerns and refer cases for specialized counseling when required.
4. Preventive Healthcare
- Organize regular health camps.
- Conduct vaccination and immunization drives.
- Promote preventive healthcare awareness.
- Conduct health education sessions on:
- Lifestyle diseases
- Personal hygiene
- Personal health
- Mental wellness
- Addiction prevention
- Nutrition
- First Aid
5. Occupational Health Services
- Conduct annual health check-ups for employees.
- Monitor occupational health risks.
- Maintain employee health records.
- Advise management on workplace health and safety.
6. Medical Centre Administration
- Supervise the campus health centre.
- Ensure availability of medicines and medical consumables.
- Maintain inventory of medical equipment.
- Verify medicine expiry and stock levels.
- Coordinate procurement of medical supplies.
7. Health Records & Documentation
- Maintain electronic and physical patient records.
- Prepare daily and monthly health reports.
- Record OPD statistics.
- Maintain accident and incident registers.
- Maintain confidential medical files.
8. Hostel Health Support
- Conduct periodic hostel health visits.
- Coordinate with Wardens regarding student health.
- Monitor students with chronic illnesses.
- Advise on sanitation and food hygiene in hostels.
9. Coordination
Coordinate regularly with:
- Hostel Wardens
- Principals
- Deans
- Security Department
- HR Department
- Administration
- Ambulance Services
- Nearby Hospitals
- Parents (during emergencies)
10. Health & Safety Compliance
- Ensure compliance with statutory health regulations.
- Support campus health audits.
- Maintain biomedical waste disposal procedures.
- Ensure infection control practices.
Special Responsibilities
- Health support during University events.
- Medical support during sports competitions.
- Convocation and cultural programme medical coverage.
- Emergency medical preparedness for large gatherings.
- Night emergency response (as per roster).
Qualification
Essential
- MBBS/BHMS/BAMS from a recognized institution.
- Valid State Medical Council Registration.
